REVIEW: C. S. Lewis: Anti-Darwinist by Dr. Jerry Bergman

By Karl Priest December 6, 2015

(Page numbers in parenthesis refer to those in the draft that Dr. Bergman provided for review.)

Previously I have tried to describe the impact Dr. Jerry Bergman has in his efforts to disseminate the scientific facts about evolutionism and creation. My examples have been baseball related as in Dr. Bergman hitting powerful homeruns. Those analogies are inadequate. As I read his latest work, C. S. Lewis: Anti-Darwinist, I thought that Dr. Bergman is more than a “mild-mannered” professor. Dr. Bergman is a Super Hero without any kryptonite vulnerabilities.

Dr. Bergman is faster than a speeding propaganda paper; more powerful than an “evolutionary” biology department: and able to leap immense lies in a single sentence! He fights a never-ending battle for truth, justice, and the American way!

Super heroes defend and protect those who cannot do it for themselves. In this book, it is the late C. S. Lewis who needs defending.

Lewis “succeeded as few others in causing Christianity to be discussed seriously and publicly.” Lewis is the number one best-selling Christian author and contributed greatly to Christianity being discussed academically. He used the Intelligent Design basis for his apologetics. Like any Christian who does not hide his light under a bushel, Lewis is the target of God-haters.

Dr. Bergman robustly rebuts those who claim that Lewis believed in evolutionism. With powerful documentation Dr. Bergman shows that C. S. was not even remotely a True Believer in Evolutionism (TBE).

Some confusion as to where Lewis stood was created by his use of the word “evolution” in the context of spiritual or mental advancement. Examination of some of his statements in context and accounting where Lewis was in his spiritual growth exclude the possibility that he ended up believing in theistic evolutionism. The more Lewis learned the greater was his hostility to evolutionism.

Lewis was brought up as a nominal Christian, but professed atheism when he was fifteen years old. This occurred after his mother’s death and his atheism was “inevitably based on what I believed to be the findings of the sciences; and those findings, not being a scientist, I had to take on trust, in fact, on authority.” (15)

Although he had doubts all along, after Lewis became a Christian he began to really question evolution. “I was at this time living, like so many Atheists or Antitheists, in a whirl of contradictions. I maintained that God did not exist. I was also very angry with God for not existing. I was equally angry with Him for creating a world.” (17)

Lewis was restrained in his public attacks on evolution because he did not have scientific credentials and because it would hamper his main ministry of Christian apologetics. Like scholars today (especially scientists) Lewis worked in a hostile environment. Also, like all conservatives (especially Christians) Lewis came “to take bitterness and rancour as a matter of course [from Liberals]." (111)

There has been no evidence uncovered that confirms or denies that Lewis believed in a worldwide flood and an age for the earth of six to ten thousand years. Nevertheless, Lewis correctly knew that modern science was based upon God as the Creator: “Men became scientific because they expected Law in Nature, and they expected Law in Nature because they believed in a Legislator” (104)

Rather than anti-science, Lewis was anti-scientism. Scientism is the “belief that modern science supplies the only reliable method of knowledge about the world, and its corollary that scientists have the right to dictate a society’s morals, religious beliefs, and even government policies merely because of their scientific expertise.” (76) The quote is by West, John G. (editor). 2012. The Magician’s Twin: C. S. Lewis on Science, Scientism, and Society. Seattle, WA: Discovery Institute Press.

Using his skills as a writer and thinker, Lewis attacked scientism and evolutionism. He used the term “emergent evolution” and called it “pure hallucination” in The Funeral of a Great Myth.

Using logic, Lewis concluded, “If the solar system was, then the appearance of organic life on this planet was also an accident, brought about by an accidental collision and the whole evolution of Man was an accident too. If so, then all our present thoughts are mere accidents—the accidental by-product of the movement of atoms…I see no reason for believing that one accident should be able to give me a correct account of all the other accidents. It’s like expecting that the accidental shape taken by the splash when you upset a milk jug should give you a correct account of how the jug was made and why it was upset.” (79)

He called evolution “the central and radical lie in the whole web of falsehood that now governs” modern civilization.

True Believers in Evolutionism believe that evolution “explains everything, the stars, the galaxies, the solar system, the planets and all life from amoeba to humans.” (7)

Lewis explained that evolution is “not the logical result of what is vaguely called ‘modern science,’ but rather is a picture of reality that has resulted, not from empirical evidence, but from imagination (and) most people believe in orthodox evolution on the basis of authority ‘because the scientists say so’ and not on the basis of fact and scientific knowledge.” (88)

With common sense logic Lewis pointed out that the “oak tree grows from the acorn and to forget that the acorn itself was dropped by a perfect oak. We are reminded constantly that the adult human being was an embryo, never that the life of the embryo came from two adult human beings. We love to notice that the express engine of to-day is the descendant of the ‘Rocket’; we do not equally remember that the ‘Rocket’ springs not from some even more rudimentary engine, but from something much more perfect and complicated than itself—namely, a man of genius.” (89) “Since the egg-bird-egg sequence leads us to no plausible beginning, is it not reasonable to look for the real origin somewhere outside (of the) sequence altogether? You have to go outside the sequence of engines, into the world of men, to find the real originator of the Rocket. Is it not equally reasonable to look outside Nature for the real Originator of the natural order?” (93) “There was never a time when nothing existed; otherwise nothing would exist now.” (82)

Lewis, humorously, but aptly explained the evolution myth as humans evolving “by the same process as did animals, thus (humans) were animals… (A)s the weak, tiny spark of life began amidst the huge hostilities of the inanimate, so now again, amidst the beasts that are far larger and stronger than he, there comes forth a little naked, shivering, cowering creature, shuffling, not yet erect, promising nothing: the product of another millionth millionth chance. (104) Even 7 th graders understand the math connected to the “millionth millionth chance.”

Relating the evolution myth to a play Lewis said it is a story “preceded by the most austere of all preludes: the infinite void, and matter restlessly moving to bring forth it knows not what.” (104) He advised to “treat the Myth with respect because the Myth gives us almost everything the imagination craves—irony, heroism, vastness, unity in multiplicity, and a tragic close. It appeals to every part of me except my reason. That is why those of us who feel that the Myth is already dead for us must not make the mistake of trying to ‘debunk’ it in the wrong way. We must not fancy that we are securing the modern world from something grim and dry, something that starves the soul. The contrary is the truth. It is our painful duty to wake the world from an enchantment. (98) Also, he knew that the evolution myth “has great allies, its friends are propaganda, party cries, and bilge, and Man’s incorrigible mind. (89)

Lewis used a great term, “biolatry,” to aptly describe what TBEs do when they make evolution into an intelligent force.

Rhetorically he asked, “Does the whole vast structure of modern naturalism depend not on positive evidence but simply on an a priori metaphysical prejudice? Was it devised not to get the facts but to keep out God?” (95)

Lewis’s feared “what man might do to mankind” because of the view “that morality is relative and that moral standards have grown from mere impulses, from chemical reactions and responses which are in turn simply part of the irrational, blind development of organic life from the inorganic.” (97)

He pointed out the satanic scheme embraced by penning the demon dialogue in Screwtape Letters. “So inveterate is their appetite for Heaven that our best method, at this stage, of attaching them to earth is to make them believe that the earth can be turned into Heaven at some future date by politics or eugenics or ’science.’ (105)

As we are seeing with the fanaticism over evolutionism and “climate change/global warming”, we can understand the prophetic statement of Lewis when he said, “I dread government in the name of science. That is how tyrannies come in.” (113)

C.S. Lewis was not a perfect man. Nevertheless, he was not an evolutionist in any form. C. S. Lewis: Anti-Darwinist provides ample ammunition to win that argument.

Dr. Jerry Bergman continues to muzzle the megalomaniacal TBE villains who could easily be compared to General Zod in DC Comics. They maniacally screech, “Kneel before Zod!” Always defeated, yet ever trying to win by any vile means, TBEs definitely are comical. In fact, the series Infinite Earths is as believable as evolutionism on our unique earth. That said, like the imaginary Zod, TBEs cause a lot of havoc and harm.

Thank God for giving us an intellectual warrior—a super hero, Dr. Jerry Bergman—who can resist the archenemies of truth and all that is good.

Using a pseudonym Lewis published The Evolutionary Hymn with the first stanza being:

Lead us, Evolution, lead us
Up the future’s endless stair:
Chop us, change us, prod us, weed us,
For stagnation is despair:
Groping, guessing, yet progressing,
Lead us nobody knows where.

BOOK REVIEW

Sheep Tracks—Biblical Insights from a Sheepherder by Dennis Rowan

By Karl Priest August 1, 2015

There are hundreds of mentions of “sheep,” “flock,” “shepherd,” “pasture,” and “fold” in the Bible (King James). Some are not too inspiring, such as Genesis 47: 3b “Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.” Some are wonderful, but not often quoted such as Psalms 100:3: “Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Others ae powerful, such as John 10:11: “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” Then there are the widely used teaching verses. Luke 15:4-7: “What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it.” Matthew 7:15: “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” God certainly has an interest in the subject.*

Dr. Dennis Rowan is a full time shepherd who has an interest in applying his shepherding experiences to biblical connections to current events. His book contains 46 short essays spanning over 20 years that enlighten and inspire readers.

There are many insights (fat, lame, non-producing, or straying sheep; thistles, parasites, gates, false shepherds) into biblical principals in this book, but the author shares a burden, as I do, for Christian children and that will be the focus of this review.

In the Introduction, Dr. Rowan (a former college professor) cites Isaiah 53:6 (“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”) as the verse that is the book’s thread. He wrote, “We (Christians) need to do something besides warm a church pew to correct some of the ways we have gone astray in America, particularly as we train our children.” (xx1) He closes Chapter 1 with a grazing connection, “It is obvious that professing Christians spend too much time around the watering hole and favorite shade tree.” (25)

The theme continues with the care of yearling sheep compared to children. “Unfortunately, our churches…spend more time, effort and money feeding ourselves than we do feeding and caring for the young. Furthermore, all the time children spend away from home in school classrooms takes away from parents who are the primary shepherds of those young lambs.” (43) “In our Christian life we should follow the same management as shepherds; we should provide the very best pasture for the lambs.” (60) As sheep tend to follow other sheep even though the route leads to problems, Dr. Rowan asks, “When will church congregations begin to support Christian schools, or start their own school? Is following others to a virtual dead end in the corner of a field the best we Christians can do?” (143) “With my flock of sheep, it is very difficult to retrain a wayward group of sheep. It works much better to start with the young and carefully train them.” (158)

“The shepherd will not allow his lambs to be exposed to any contaminated pasture…what do you think the environment is like in America’s state controlled schools…?...One of the deceptive things about sheep pasture is that there are times when the pasture looks beautiful, but in reality it is heavily contaminated.” (166) “If I grazed my lambs on contaminated pasture five days a week, then placed them in clean pasture two days a week, and follow this with another fiv-day period on a parasite infested pasture any knowledgeable shepherd would call me foolish for such a practice…If a man says he is called by God to pastor a church congregation in 1999 in the USA and is not making a concerted effort in the pulpit to direct his flock to clean pasture (getting the lambs out of public schools) then I, without hesitation, say he is missing part of his calling!” (167)

“Pastors often proclaim themselves shepherd of a flock (their church congregation). Most cater to the sheep with the heavy fleeces. In other words, pastors seek to satisfy the adults because it’s the adults who pay the bills including the pastor’s salary…It is not uncommon to find Sunday morning worshipers sitting in a million dollar building, and come Monday morning the kids are sitting in a public school because in the words of the pastor, ‘it costs too much’ to have a Christian school.” (168)

“I know of nothing that is more like an attempt to tame the coyotes than all the efforts Christians make to change government schools. We need to wise up; we will not change the basic government school mentality any quicker than I would be able to tame the coyotes roaming on and near my property…Gains made in a single school district is a little like taming one coyote only to discover you did not change the nature of Canis latrans. Furthermore, the forests and prairies are loaded with untamed coyotes that outnumber any that might be made docile.” (183) “When will we decide that public schools, for example, are leading our young lambs into places away from the Good Shepherd?” (190)

“Stray dogs, wild or not, are unwelcome. Like the pastor who guards his flock, I don’t want the wrong kind of dogs with my sheep…I doubt your pastor would invite a nonbeliever to fill the pulpit to speak to the adults in the church. Does it bother your pastor that five days a week (more than 75% of the children’s time) teaching is provided to children in his congregation at public schools that do not acknowledge Jesus Christ and/or God unless it is to blatantly disallow the mention of His name?” (198) “I do pray that leaders in America’s church congregations will pause long enough to realize how absurd it is to be so ‘religious’ about who stands in the pulpit talking to adults, who should have a degree of Christian maturity about them on one hand, and yet on the other hand are blinded to the dangers of having our young immature lambs (our children) being taught daily in a system that is flawed by any biblical measurement you use. Incidentally, my young lambs are much more susceptible to predators than my adult sheep. A stray dog among my lambs is ALWAYS a greater threat than such a dog in a pasture of adult sheep.” (199 emphasis in original)

Scripture is clear, shepherds (parents and pastors) MUST nature and protect our little lambs!

Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep?  You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. ( Ezekiel 34:2-3)

*Some other important verses related to sheep:

John 10:1-16 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

Psalms 23 - The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want…

1 Peter 5:4 - And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

BOOK REVIEW

The Darwin Effect by Dr. Jerry Bergman

We are in a war! The first shot of the Culture War was fired in 1974. “Once we have a war there is only one thing to do. It must be won. For defeat brings worse things than any that can ever happen in war.” — Ernest Hemmingway

The military strategy of “shock and awe,” the use of overwhelming force, must be used to defeat the evil empire of liberalism which uses evolutionism as its major weapon of mass destruction. Books and articles by Dr. Jerry Bergman are academic high caliber weaponry and heavy artillery. The book, The Darwin Effect, is the bombardment that obliterates any reason to embrace evolutionism as a respectable worldview.

The enemy has tried to suppress Dr. Bergman. See “A Tale of Two Censors” for one example. The strategy failed and Dr. Bergman’s weapons are available for creationists (i.e. common sensers) to use to gain victories wherever the vicious force of evolutionism is based.

Anyone seeking knowledge and understanding of the devastation resulting from Darwinism should read The Darwin Effect. It is overwhelming evidence of the evil of evolutionism and The Darwin Effect is the intellectual equivalent of “shock and awe.”

If evolutionists could remotely connect creationists to such condemning connections they would publish and parade the information far and wide. The best evolutionists can do is point to the few professing Christians who sincerely (usually they did it ignorantly based upon their compromise with evolutionism), accepted or winked at slavery. Without a doubt, that tiny misguided minority was the exception. As Dr. Bergman documents in The Darwin Effect, the connection of the major majority of evolutionists involved with and even instigating astounding atrocities is the rule.

Evolution caused the enslavement (sometimes annihilation) of blacks; classification of the mentally ill and incompetent as worthy of elimination; rating of females as inferior to males; butchering of babies; and the wars and slaughters of Communism and Nazism.

Darwinist mocking of creationism is nearly identical to that of racist David Duke. Duke said that entomologist E. O. Wilson’s Sociobiology was “magnificent.” Racist Duke caught Wilson’s connection of ants and humans being driven to “preserve the genotype.” (151)

Interestingly, Dr. Bergman reveals that “ruthless capitalism” was founded upon the demonic doctrine of Darwinism. Robber Baron Andrew Carnegie abandoned Christianity for Darwinism. (254)

“Marx, Stalin, Hitler, and Mao Tse-tung all (once) once accepted the Christian teaching that all humans were brothers because they were all descendants of Adam and Eve. If they had continued to embrace Christian creationism they would not have become the leaders of the anti-Christian totalitarian movements that ideologically opposed Christianity.” (342) Their embrace of evolutionism contributed to the deaths of an estimated 250 million people.

Saying that Darwin was not a supporter of slavery does not mean he did not think the white race was superior to the black race. Hitler was kind to dogs. Absolving Darwin for the results of Darwinism “is not unlike Dr. Frankenstein claiming the killing spree by the monster he created had nothing to do with him.” (342-343)

Deluded Darwinists will continue to use deceit to wreck decay upon society. Deluded Darwinists will continue to use deceit to wreck decay upon society. They will not allow dissent. That has been documented on the state level and on the national level.

Darwin decided that the best way to attack the Bible was through a “’back door’ approach.” “Slow and silent side attacks” was the sneaky preference of Darwin. (343) Beginning in the 1970’s, the devious attacks on Christianity became full frontal and forceful. Liberals have used evolutionism to wage war against Christianity. They have inflicted heavy casualties. The only way they can completely win is by Christians being AWOL and refusing to use the weapons we have such as Dr. Bergman’s The Darwin Effect.

BOOK REVIEW

MAESTRO UNIVERSE (The second edition book of Originality Throughout the Universe, Classical Science Laws for Life on Earth, (121 pp., i-vi, soft cover, full color, 94 figures, 8.5 x 11, 2015 by Dr. Joseph Mastropaolo.)

Dr. Joseph Mastropaolo is an original and so is his book. Joseph A. Mastropaolo has a three-year Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship with the National Heart Institute of the National Institutes of Health in human physiology. He was an Aerospace Physiologist for Douglas Space Systems. He received two Vice Presidential Awards, one for Aerospace Safety and one for Aerospace Medicine. He patented a crew conditioning device for extended space missions and designed the life support specifications for the Manned Orbiting Animal Research Facility. He retired from teaching biomechanics and physiology at California State University, Long Beach. Probably his most outstanding accomplishment was being the physiologist for the pilot of the Gossamer Condor and Gossamer Albatross human powered flight projects. More about Dr. Mastropaolo can be found at “About the Author.”

Using classical science (verifiable and objective evidence) and scientific statistical inference Dr. Joseph Mastropaolo uses the mathematics of probability (explained in a way that the non-mathematician can understand) to demonstrate that nothing exists that is identical to anything else. Of particular interest to me is the section on insects. Bees, wasps, beetles, cockroaches, flies, grasshoppers, moths, and butterflies were examined and declared to be all originals. Dr. Mastropaolo also declares that other arthropods, all mammals, fish, birds, amphibians, and microorganisms are unique. He demonstrates why everything in the universe, from stars to sand—EVERYTHING IN THE UNIVERSE—is an original. This edition adds a second tier of mathematical inference. Dr. Mastropaolo states (pg. 116) that “There is only on planet, Earth, only one like its moon, only one star like its sun, and only one biosphere like the one on this planet.” Classical science proves creation!

There is “mega-engineering” wherever we look. The book’s website states “ There does not seem to be an atheistic or evolutionist or non-designer alternative to the mega-engineer probability. If so, then originality is the new science frontier.” That is what should be taught in school science classes.

On the back of the book, Dr. Mastropaolo offers a “Science Trial” (similar to his famous Life Science Trial) to anyone who can scientifically dispute that “all of the natural objects in the universe are originals.”

Darwinism: An Acid that Corrodes Everything--Darwinism, Immorality, Abortion, and the Sexual Revolution by Dr. Jerry Bergman

As a former baseball player (http://www.insectman.us/testimony/baseball.htm) I compare the evolutionism versus creation competition as a championship contest where literally everything is at stake. If Jerry Bergman is compared to a baseball hero he would be better than Babe Ruth and this book is an 800 foot homerun. Despite being pitched curveballs, knuckleballs, and many spitballs by evolution opposition, Dr. Bergman continues to knock the balls out of the park and opposition pitchers out of the box. The total opposition pitcher ERAs are astronomically high because Dr. Bergman’s batting average is one thousand.

In this book Dr. Bergman, as he always does, provides a wealth of documented facts to support the thesis of the title.

I grew up in the toughest neighborhood in West Virginia (http://www.insectman.us/testimony/orchard-manor.htm) which was once referred to in the media as “West Virginia's South Bronx”. As society's standards declined my old neighborhood did also, until finally the only answer was to demolish most of the buildings. Sadly, I have observed the Darwinian “tooth and claw” way of living, which I grew up with, is now becoming more widespread. America doesn’t realize what is coming!

If I could have suggested a chapter for the book, it would have been how the teaching (indoctrination) of evolution has been a major cause of the destruction of government schools (http://www.insectman.us/exodus-mandate-wv/wv-news.htm).

In his concluding chapter Dr. Bergman confides that the book was not intended to disprove evolution. That has already been more than adequately done in Dr. Bergman’s many other books and articles. This book does do what the title displays—document the damage done by Darwinism.

Liberalism IS Evil!
(Compromised Conservatism is too)

By Karl Priest January 6, 2015

FIRST THINGS FIRST

This article is not intended to be a study of the history of liberalism. Neither is it an attempt to distinguish between progressivism and liberalism. Both have become so inter-twined that, for all practical purposes, there is no difference. If you want to study the subject deeper, besides the dictionary and Wikipedia, I have listed some sources (with different points-of-view) in the addendum.

To me, a true liberal is someone who is open to all ways of thinking. Such a person is rare and soon to be extinct. Actually, conservatives are more tolerant of others than professing liberals. There are some likeable liberals. It is their ideology that is insidious.

Liberals, as individuals, must be prayerfully encouraged to reach out to reality and, actually, REPENT. If they refuse, they subject themselves to the consequences of clinging to their dogma of liberalism. Liberalism must undergo a full frontal attack of facts and farce until only the most fanatical adherents of that woeful worldview remain.

Liberalism is evil!
