THE TEST THAT TELLS THE TALE OF TRUTH (Nation’s Report Card 2015)

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas.” (http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/about/) Webster defines “proficient” as “good at doing something.” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/proficient)

2015 results:

For mathematics in grade 4, the percentage of students at or above Proficient, was 33. WV was 7 percentage points below the national average.

Eighth graders West Virginia students ranked at 21 percent Proficient in math and were 12 below the National Average. (http://www.nationsreportcard.gov/reading_math_2015/#mathematics/state/acl?grade=8)

The NAEP Scale Score range is 0-500.

Only four states were worse than WV (235) in 4th grade math.
